- Hikone Castle, National Treasure

15 minutes walk from JR Hikone station
Hikone Castle was built in 1603. Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of Tokugawa shogunate, planned it in order to remove Sawayama Castle.It is said that the castle was originally planned to be built in Isoyama, but was changed to Hikone when the plan was passed on to direct descendant. 20 years was spent to finish the construction.
